Prof. Dr. Yan Xu
China PR
The professor's research focuses on clinical and fundamental studies of sports injuries, investigating the pathological mechanisms of hip joint sports injuries and minimally invasive repair techniques for osteochondral tissue engineering. He specializes in arthroscopic treatment of conditions such as femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, hip joint instability, synovial chondromatosis of the hip, osteoid osteoma of the hip, and knee ligament injuries.
In China, he was among the earliest to comprehensively and systematically develop minimally invasive hip arthroscopy techniques. He pioneered several advanced arthroscopic procedures in the country, including hip arthroscopic labral reconstruction, arthroscopic gluteal tendon repair, arthroscopic lesser trochanterplasty, and arthroscopic ischial tuberoplasty. Annually, he performs over 500 hip arthroscopic surgeries, achieving clinical outcomes that rank among the leading in China and are internationally competitive.
He has led multiple national and provincial-level research projects, including grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology's National Key R&D Program, overseeing more than 10 research initiatives with total funding exceeding 7 million RMB. Before March 2025, he published 84 academic papers in domestic and international journals, including approximately 47 SCI-indexed articles as the corresponding author in authoritative journals. Over the past five years, he has served as chief or associate translator for four medical monographs and contributed to over 10 other specialized books.
His contributions have earned him six provincial and ministerial-level awards, including the China Sport Science Society Science and Technology Award, the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, and the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award.
