Dr. Matt Whalan is a Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist with over 20 years’ experience working in all levels of football. Matt is an expert and respected researcher in the fields of injury, injury prevention and surveillance with numerous peer reviewed publications and organizational collaborations.
Matt is currently the Lead Physiotherapist for the Australian Women’s National team (Matildas). He has been involved in World Cup Qualification, the 2020 Tokyo (Men’s) & 2024 Paris Olympics (Women’s) and both the male and female youth team pathways. Matt is the Football Australia Player Availability Coordinator, designing the national injury prevention system – the Perform+, in addition to evolving the Australian National Teams injury surveillance system.
Matt has presented his work internationally and continues to support and work with multiple organizations including the International Olympic Committee (IOC) & FIFA. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong (AUS) and La Trobe University (AUS).
